Welcome to the NEW Out in the Mountains, Vermont’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer Internet Newspaper. The original Out in the Mountains was founded in 1985 and closed in 2006 due to financial difficulties.

We believe that Vermonters will benefit from access to local news concerning the LGBTQ community as well as a Vermont perspective on national and international stories. In the past, OITM has been an invaluable resource to people coming out, finding resources for our community, and finding community in a rural state where some may feel socially isolated.

The editors are acutely aware that many LGBTQ Vermonters do not have access to DSL or other broadband service, and therefore we have attempted to make our site accessible and fast loading by dial up, and have ensured that our site works on web-enabled cell phones. We would like to start a print edition, which would be more likely to reach rural areas underserved by the internet, but that is a hope for the future --- at the moment we have no money and the editors are funding OITM.

It is our hope that the new Out in the Mountains will be a community paper, where anyone who has some news will feel welcome to submit a story. We encourage feedback - we encourage you to tell us what you want to see in published.
